#Google has made note of their increase in the hiring of Black people—they just failed to mention it was more so for public relations than it was an actual generator of diversity! Those who have been hired in the wake of the tech giant’s conscientious efforts are telling a different story and, recently, a racial discrimination lawsuit has been filed against the #Fortune10 company.

#AprilCurley was hired by Google and worked as a #DiversityRecruiter, to help the boost their recruitment and hiring of Black Men and Women. Upon hire, she went into an entry-level position even though she had a Master’s degree coupled with year’s of experience. In the lawsuit, Curley claims she experienced a hostile work environment and discrimination based solely on her race. The suit also claims Google fired Curley, illegally and exposes their racial biases in hiring practices.

The company was the first major tech firm to report workforce-diversity numbers last year. They reported that 4.4% of its U.S. workers were Black — jobs in #tech made up 3% — and half were White. In leadership positions, 3% were Black and two-thirds were White. Black workers made up 9% of new hires last year, up from 6% in 2020, per the data report.

With the filing of this lawsuit, Curley felt it necessary to use her voice for Black women and other minorities currently and formerly employed by the tech giant. With more individuals coming forth and voicing their disdain with their treatment as employees, Curley and her attorney, @AttorneyCrump are seeking to turn this case into a class a class action lawsuit due to the alleged systemic discrimination.

As for what the lawsuit is seeking for them; reinstatement to previous positions, along with awarding “the value of compensation and benefits they lost and will lose in the future.”

We hope Google gets it together and expeditiously at that! Black Women are game changers and even when overqualified, are still seeing attempts at society dishing out bare minimum treatment, if that. I mean, look at what they’ve crucified #KetanjiBrownJackson this week 😒

Good luck on your pursuit of justice, sis! #BWLM💕
