Erika Alexander Narrates New Audible Series “finding Tamika” That Challenges Media Bias Towards Missing Black Women

@NPR reported last Fall that missing Black women and girls are approximately 15% of the country’s female population, but close 34% of those missing. With the rising rates of missing Black women, few ever get to know their names or their stories.

#RebkahHoward, aunt of #TamikaHouston, committed her life to getting attention to her niece’s story when Tamika went missing in 2004. It took nearly 20 years, but the world will finally get to hear her story.

“Finding Tamika” is the first new Audible series from SBH productions, a joint venture between #KevinHart and #CharlamagneThaGod. It is narrated, co-written and co-produced by actress and writer #ErikaAlexander, who many know from the hit television show #LivingSingle.

The audio book skillfully tells Tamika’s story through the words and experiences of the people who loved her. Tamika, who was only 24 years old at the time of her disappearance, was described as a loving young woman who always saw the best in people and put others before herself. “Finding Tamika” takes viewers on the 15-month search of her family to find her.

Her remains were finally found in August 2005 when Christopher Hampton admitted burying her remains and later digging them up to further decapitate the body. Hampton, 25, plead guilty to her murder and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in April.

The goal of this project for Alexander is to help raise awareness to a new generation “to help raise the dead, expose a hidden past, and give warning for our future.” This story sheds light on the awful truth that “a Black girl does not have to go missing for us not to see her. No matter the cost, though, we must look for Tamika, because until she is found we are all lost.”

I personally listened to this audiobook in one sitting. I was captivated by how the story was skillfully told and produced! It kept me at the edge of my seat, while educating me to what our people go through when a loved one is missing. This audible series is a must hear! Make sure you download your copy! #BWLM💕
