When you don’t know how to help in difficult situations, teamwork can make the dream work!

Two friends, Londonite #PatriciaDaley and #TokunboKoiki, discovered that student #KorrineSky was documenteing her traumatizing experiences while trying to escape Ukraine. The three of them came together and raised over $60,000 to help Korrine and other Black students like her flee the country in the wake of the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Even though Korrine escaped and is safe, many Black people in Ukraine still have similar stories and need help. Many clips that have gone viral over the last few weeks showcase discrimination against Black foreigners. They are being harassed and held back when trying to leave Ukraine on various modes of public transportation.

The changemakers told @SkyNews that they have now helped “more than 500 Black students” to successfully flee Ukraine by “funding transport costs, like arranging taxis and other emergency needs.”

It’s crazy that people have time to even discriminate in such a crisis and the students will remember this experience forever, which is terrifying and traumatizing.

In response to the ongoing mistreatment of Black people in Ukraine, U.N.’s high commissioner for refugees, #FilippoGrandi, stated, “There should be absolutely no discrimination between Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians, Europeans and non-Europeans. Everybody is fleeing from the same risks.”

According to @NBCNews, Grandi added that the racist incidents “weren’t a product of state policies.”

Through social media and informing people of the current hardships in #Ukraine, three Black women came together to make a difference, bring awareness and deliver assistance to those who have been mistreated by the country they call home. The #BlackGirlMagic was magicking!!!
