In Dallas County’s Frank Crowley Courts Building, finding a Black woman presiding over court is no rarity. Voters have elected them to nearly half the criminal district courts, seating them on 8 of the 17 benches.
They include: Honorable Amber Givens, Honorable Audra Riley, Honorable Chika Anyiam, Honorable Dominque Collins, Honorable Lela Lawrence Mays, Honorable Raquel “Rocky” James, Honorable Stephanie Huff and Honorable Tammy Kemp.
Just merely ten years ago the courts in Dallas looked drastically different. It went from one to eight black women judges on the bench.
In a recent interview with Channel 11 News in Dallas a few of these judges express there overwhelming support for Supreme Court Nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson. This is true black girl magic – Sisters Support Sisters!
