Bringing in #WomensHistoryMonth with a big bang, West African native, @BartCooper combines popular culture and historical Black women figures through his art, reimaging the heroes of Black history.
In his art installation of 10 powerful Black women, entitled “Heroes: My Hereos Actually Have Superpowers,” Cooper boldly portrays Black sheroes such as #HarrietTubman, #SojounerTruth, #RosaParks and #WinnieMandela. Each figure wears a t-shirt with the insignias of #Superman, #GreenLantern, #IronMan and #BlackPanther. Through his art, he masterfully connects these iconic women in history with the visual symbolism of superheroes.
Cooper does not just contribute to society through his artwork, he believes in giving back. He has returned to his hometown in California to display his most recent work and lead educational programming. Faces International in partnership with Arts Quest and the United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley will present “Heroes” free to the public, opening on March 18, 2022. Go check it out! #BWLM💕
