LaKesha Womack has spent twenty-one years running other people’s campaigns. On November 3, 2026, she won one of her own.

Womack took North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District with 147,388 votes, 51.1 percent, against 140,973 and 48.9 percent for Representative Tim Moore, with all precincts reporting. The margin was about 6,400 votes. Moore, North Carolina’s House speaker for a decade, had carried the same district by 16 points in 2024.

She turned down the usual advice about where a newcomer should run.

“I’m not going to discount myself and [only] try to run in what some people would consider an easy seat,” she said. “I’m up for the challenge.”

Womack owns Womack Consulting Group, which has handled brand management, leadership training, strategic planning and political consulting since 2005. She is an ordained minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, graduated from the Campaign School at Yale University, and has written twenty books. This was her first run for office.

“I can’t preach about the hungry if I’m not willing to advocate for policies that will eradicate poverty,” she said.

A criminal summons over a rental vehicle that was not returned is on the record against her, with a court date set for November 10. She has not been convicted of anything.

“I will not allow headlines, speculation, or questionable timing to define my character, my record of service, or my commitment to the people of North Carolina,” she said.
