Pressed Roots opens its fifth silk blowout bar at 1325 5th Street NE in Washington in early December 2026, its first outside Texas. The thing its founder sells is the clock.
Piersten Gaines, the founder and chief executive, built the chain for women with textured hair around a promise of a finished style in under 120 minutes, and she says the average visit runs about 100 minutes. “On average, they’re in and out in about 100 minutes, which for this service is really unheard of,” she said.
She tested the idea in pop-up markets in Boston, Atlanta and Dallas, where it sold out, before the first salon opened in Dallas in 2020. Revenue has grown more than twentyfold since. Four locations are profitable, and all four are in Texas. The company has raised $6 million in total and employs more than 100 people, a number it expects to grow by about half with the Washington opening, and it is on track to pass 150,000 services by the end of 2026.
It established a franchise program in 2025, signed its first franchisee, and expects the first franchised salons in 2027. The Washington salon will carry a dedicated training station at the back. Its own technology gives stylists weekly numbers on average styling time, feedback score, and add-on retail sales.
Gaines said customers had been asking for other cities since the beginning. “People have been requesting us in different cities across the country since our inception,” she said. “We knew we wanted to be in a market that really encompassed what our brand represents.” She said Washington is an entry point to the East Coast and that the company plans a few locations in the area over the next few years.
“I hope that this not only encourages our community that we can build for us,” she said.
