Federal agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home in the Washington area before dawn on Monday, October 12, 2026, 22 days before Election Day.
Omar, the Minnesota Democrat, said the search was an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. “For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” she said. “I will not be silenced.”
Homeland Security Investigations executed the warrant, which a Justice Department spokesperson described as judicially authorized. “This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” the spokesperson said. The statement did not say whether the warrant related to Omar.
The Congressional Black Caucus called the search a “sham” meant to “manufacture an appearance of wrongdoing on the eve of the midterm elections, without any apparent legal basis.” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called it “deeply disturbing” and said it “raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government.” Rep. Rashida Tlaib said she stands with Omar.
Trump attacked Omar at a rally in Ohio the same week. He told reporters, “I have nothing to do with it.”
This is not the first time the threat has been physical. In January a man assaulted Omar with a syringe at a Minneapolis town hall. He was sentenced to 14 months in federal prison.
