Chilli told a Las Vegas crowd on October 9, 2026 that her TLC bandmate Tionne Watkins, known as T-Boz, is in a sickle cell crisis and is taking the time she needs to recover.

“Some of you may not know that my group member T-Boz has sickle cell disease,” Chilli said from the stage. “Sometimes, you have a crisis, and she did this time.” She told the room Watkins is “taking the very necessary time she needs to get back to 100 percent,” asked them to support her, and said she would keep performing the dates herself.

Watkins is 56. When she was seven, doctors told her she would not live past 30 and would not have children. She has a Grammy, two children, and a career that has now run 26 years past the age she was told she would not reach.

She has been off the road since August. She missed the concert at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut on August 28, and her manager, Bill Diggins, later confirmed she had been hospitalized and said recovery could take days or weeks. The It’s Iconic tour, which also features Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue, played its last scheduled date in Concord, California on October 11, 2026. No public return date has been announced.

What Chilli did on that stage is the part to keep. She said the name of the disease out loud to a paying audience, told them her friend is sick and is not coming, and did not dress it up as a scheduling change. Then she worked the show.

That is a version of covering for somebody that does not make her disappear. Watkins is not performing, and the reason is not a secret. The tour did not pretend she was fine and it did not pretend she was finished either. Her absence has a name on it, which is more than most people in pain get at work.
