Arvia Few’s answer to Black loneliness is not an algorithm. It is a room, and she books it.
Few is a matchmaker and dating coach who founded DOTTIE, a community platform that curates in person spaces for Black singles in their twenties and thirties, for friendship as much as for romance. Her starting point, offered on October 6, 2026, is not complicated.
“People are lonely because we are humans, and humans are meant to have relationships,” she said.
What she describes seeing in those rooms is the part that is hard to engineer. “The loneliness piece is big because when people do finally get into a room where everyone is single, they realize they’re not alone, and it really warms my heart to see the level of connection that happens organically,” she said.
Her other claim is the useful one, and it cuts against how most people talk about dating.
“Learning how to be in a relationship and learning how to connect is a skill that can be learned,” she said.
Which reframes the whole complaint. If connection is a skill, being out of practice is not a character flaw and it is not permanent. It is a thing you have not done lately.
Cuffing season arrives on schedule every year and gets treated as a joke about the weather. Few is treating it as a deadline for something people can rehearse.
