Cheryl Polote Williamson was enstooled as a Queen Mother of Development for the Abura Odonase area in Ghana, in a report published October 1, 2026.

Williamson founded the nonprofit Soul Reborn. She has described partnership offers arriving out of the ceremony day itself, which is the part that separates this from a visit.

That distinction is the whole story. A trip ends. A stool does not. Enstoolment places a person inside a traditional structure with a community attached to it, and the title comes with expectations about what she does next, not just a certificate for what she has already done.

It is also a different relationship than the one the return travel pitch sells to Black Americans. That pitch is about arriving, being welcomed, taking the photographs and flying home. This is about being given standing, which is harder, because standing can be disappointed.

For Black American women reading it: there is a version of going back that is tourism and a version that is responsibility, and the second one is becoming more common. Williamson walked in with an organization already built and walked out with people counting on her.

Nobody has to take a title to be in relationship with the continent. But it is worth noticing when the invitation stops being to a ceremony and starts being to a job.
