Food creator Sonja Norwood was profiled on September 16, 2026, for the series that made her name: Lost Black American Recipes.
Norwood is a former science teacher from Texas who went full time as a creator in May 2026. She bakes and teaches history at the same time, pulling dishes like vinegar pie out of the archive and putting them back on a table people can actually see.
Vinegar pie is a good example of why the series works. It came out of kitchens that had to make dessert without lemons, and it survived because somebody’s grandmother kept making it. Food like that carries the receipt of what our people did with what they had.
She posts as @wickdconfections and has more than 2.3 million followers across Instagram and TikTok. She has also cooked on Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge and appeared at the 2026 Essence Festival of Culture.
