Monaleo is using one of the hardest moments of her life to raise awareness about a health condition that affects millions of women. The rapper recently revealed that complications from polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) nearly claimed her life, leaving her with one ovary and one fallopian tube after emergency surgery.
Now, the 25-year-old artist is speaking openly about her experience in hopes that other Black women take their reproductive health seriously. Her emotional message has also sparked conversations about how women’s pain is often dismissed in medical settings and why early diagnosis matters.
Monaleo Shares Her Painful PCOS Journey After a Near-Death Medical Emergency
Looking back on the past year, Monaleo described just how close she came to losing her life. She explained that complications from PCOS led to an ovarian torsion, a medical emergency that required immediate surgery. As a result, doctors removed one of her ovaries and one fallopian tube.
The health crisis also forced her to cancel the final leg of her Who Did the Body? tour while she focused on recovery. Sharing her story on X, the rapper wrote:
“I really could’ve died this year. I really had to yell in agony for that hospital to take me serious.”
She also revealed that she lived with the ovarian torsion for more than 12 hours before receiving the care she needed. The experience left her physically and emotionally exhausted as she continues adjusting to major hormonal changes.
PCOS Awareness: Monaleo Wants Black Women to Know They Are Not Alone
Although Monaleo is grateful to be alive, she admitted that recovery has not been easy. She said losing half of her reproductive system at such a young age has changed her life in many ways.
In the same heartfelt message, she encouraged others living with PCOS to seek medical help and keep advocating for themselves.
“Hope any other person struggling with PMOS/PCOS is getting the help they need. You are not alone on your journey. Hugs from your cyster.”
Her words have resonated with many women who have faced similar struggles. PCOS is one of the most common hormonal disorders among women of reproductive age. Yet many patients spend years searching for answers before receiving a proper diagnosis.
Medical experts have long warned that untreated PCOS can increase the risk of serious complications, including infertility, ovarian cysts, diabetes, and heart disease. Monaleo’s experience highlights why listening to your body and seeking prompt medical attention can be life-saving.
Monaleo Continues Using Her Platform to Educate and Inspire
This is not the first time Monaleo has used her voice to support others through difficult experiences. Beyond music, she has become an advocate for mental health and emotional healing.
In 2023, she launched the Stay One More Day Foundation after publicly sharing her own struggles with suicidal thoughts and depression. The organization works to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and encourages people to seek support during difficult times.
While this latest chapter focuses on reproductive health, her mission remains the same. She wants people to know they are not alone and that asking for help is a sign of strength.
Family, Recovery and Looking Toward the Future
Despite the challenges, Monaleo continues moving forward with the support of her family. She married rapper Stunna in 2025 during a widely shared all-pink wedding ceremony. The couple also welcomed their first child in 2024.
Even as she continues healing, Monaleo remains committed to using her platform for something bigger than entertainment. Her openness is helping shine a light on health issues that many Black women quietly face.
By sharing her journey, she is encouraging women to trust their instincts, speak up when something feels wrong, and never ignore persistent symptoms. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that early medical care can save lives, and that every woman deserves to have her pain taken seriously.
