Mother Khadijah Farrakhan, the longtime wife of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, has died at the age of 90. Her passing marks the end of more than seven decades of devoted service to her family, her faith, and the Nation of Islam community.
The announcement was shared through The Final Call by Student Minister Ishmael R. Muhammad on behalf of the Executive Council of the Nation of Islam. The statement said Minister Farrakhan shared the news “with deep sadness yet with profound gratitude to Allah,” describing his wife as a loving partner, mother, and faithful follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad.
Mother Khadijah Farrakhan Remembered for a Life of Faith and Service
The Nation of Islam honored Mother Khadijah as its First Lady and praised her lifelong commitment to faith. The organization said she would always be remembered for her devotion, kindness, and unwavering support.
In its statement, the organization thanked Allah for her life and prayed for comfort for the Farrakhan family during this difficult time. Funeral, or Janazah, service details will be announced once they become available.
Mother Khadijah Farrakhan and Louis Farrakhan Shared 72 Years of Marriage
Mother Khadijah and Louis Farrakhan married in 1953 at St. Cyprian’s Episcopal Church in Boston. They spent 72 years together and would have celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in September.
Together, they raised nine children: Louis Farrakhan Jr., Mustapha, Joshua Nasir, Abnar, Donna, Hanan, Maria, Fatimah, and Khallada. Their son, Louis Farrakhan Jr., died in 2018. Throughout their marriage, Mother Khadijah remained a steady presence beside her husband as he led the Nation of Islam.

Mother Khadijah was widely admired for her quiet strength and humility. Last year, she and Minister Farrakhan were honored during a special celebration at The Salaam Restaurant in Chicago. The event recognized Minister Farrakhan’s 92nd birthday and celebrated Mother Khadijah’s grace and dedication.
During the event, Student Minister Abdul Rasul Muhammad described her as the foundation behind her husband’s success. Quoting Minister Farrakhan, he said:
“She is the wind beneath his wings. She provides support, encouragement, and strength—often behind the scenes—that enables another to soar.”
He also praised her lasting impact, saying she would be remembered for generations because of both her public and private sacrifices.
