    Edem Wosornu Appointed UN Assistant High Commissioner for Protection

    Edem Wosornu, a Ghanaian humanitarian leader, has been appointed as the Assistant High Commissioner for Protection at the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The appointment was made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

    She now holds one of the highest protection roles within the UN system. The position focuses on safeguarding refugees, asylum seekers, and displaced people worldwide.

    She takes over from Ruvendrini Menikdiwela of Sri Lanka. Her work in refugee protection was widely praised by UN leadership.
