Billboard Women in Music 2026 Highlights Maternal Health Advocacy
Billboard Women in Music 2026 placed maternal health at the center of its global platform by naming birthFUND as its 2026 nonprofit partner. This major moment brought urgent attention to a crisis that continues to affect women across the United States.
As a result, the event moved beyond entertainment and into impact. The recognition elevated conversations around safe childbirth and access to care, especially for underserved communities. It also showed how cultural platforms can influence real change when they highlight critical health issues.
Elaine Welteroth and Kelly Rowland Lead Call for Safer Births
Founder Elaine Welteroth took the stage alongside Grammy Award winner Kelly Rowland to spotlight the nonprofit’s mission. Together, they used the moment to push for better maternal health outcomes and wider access to midwifery care.
“We are so genuinely honored to be Billboard Women in Music’s nonprofit partner this year,” Welteroth said. “We were there to mobilize action around a crisis that is both urgent and preventable.” Their joint appearance made it clear that advocacy and influence can work hand in hand to drive awareness and action.
birthFUND’s Mission to Improve Maternal Health Outcomes
At its core, birthFUND focuses on expanding access to midwifery-led care. This model has been proven to improve outcomes and reduce risks during childbirth. The organization is working to close the gap between what is known to save lives and who can actually access that care.
Importantly, the need is urgent. The United States has one of the highest maternal mortality rates among high-income countries. However, experts say more than 80 percent of these deaths are preventable with proper care. This reality drives birthFUND’s mission and growing national presence.
From Black Maternal Health Week to National Impact
Founded on April 11, 2024, during Black Maternal Health Week, birthFUND has quickly grown into a powerful voice in healthcare advocacy. Within just two years, the organization has raised millions and supported hundreds of families across the country.
In addition, new initiatives like the birthFUND 100 are helping expand its reach. This effort brings together influential leaders and brands to support safer birth experiences. The goal is simple but powerful: build a movement centered on care, dignity, and equal access.
Personal Stories Drive Urgency and Action
For both Welteroth and Rowland, the mission is deeply personal. Welteroth emphasized that safe birth should be a basic right for every woman. “Midwifery is a life-saving model of birth care that can help prevent 80 percent of maternal deaths,” she said.
Rowland also shared her connection to the cause. “Every woman deserves to feel safe, supported, and cared for,” she said. Their voices added emotional weight to the conversation and helped connect policy issues to real human experiences.
Event Activation Encourages Real Time Support
Beyond speeches, the event created opportunities for direct impact. Attendees were invited to support families by funding access to midwifery care in real time. This approach turned awareness into action during the event itself.
Furthermore, donations were linked to a special incentive, including a chance to win a custom diamond locket. While the reward added excitement, the true focus remained on saving lives. As Welteroth noted, “This moment is about more than awareness. It’s about taking action.”
