Rebecca Pearce Announces Historic Run for Bowie Mayor
At only 23 years old, Rebecca Pearce is making history as the youngest person to run for mayor of Bowie, Maryland. Her announcement in late February set the stage for a mayoral race filled with energy, ideas, and bold leadership. With nine candidates vying for the city’s top position, Pearce is standing out for her clear vision and dedication to her community.
Pearce told PGCTV, “I am running because I always knew I was going to go into office and I decided if not now, then when? I love people, I love community, I love investing back into the community that ultimately built me.” Her campaign reflects both ambition and deep-rooted commitment to Bowie’s residents.
The special election is set for April 7, following the resignation of former Mayor Tim Adams. This historic moment offers Bowie a fresh perspective and a chance for youth-driven leadership.
Focused on Community and Economic Growth
Rebecca Pearce’s campaign centers on practical changes that can directly impact Bowie residents. She plans to tackle affordability issues, including lowering property taxes and addressing rising utility costs from companies like BGE and Pepco. Pearce is also advocating for stronger schools, ensuring students have the resources they need to succeed, and improving collaboration between educators, parents, and local officials.
In addition, Pearce’s vision includes strengthening the local economy through enhanced safety measures, supporting small businesses, and encouraging thoughtful development. She is committed to bringing more grocery stores, better infrastructure, and essential services closer to residents, all while improving accountability in city services like trash collection and promoting professionalism in local government operations.
A Resume That Speaks Volumes
Pearce’s leadership journey began in middle school as 8th-grade class president at Benjamin Tasker Middle School. She continued her growth at Bowie High School, serving as Student Body President and graduating in the top 10% of her class. Pearce then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Howard University in just three years, graduating with honors.
Her professional experience is equally impressive. Pearce has worked as a law clerk supporting legislative efforts in Maryland, led statewide advocacy with One Fair Wage, and managed political campaigns handling fundraising, direct mail, and digital communications. Currently, she works as an Account Executive at a political consulting firm, bringing her advocacy and policy experience to the local stage.
Inspiring Young People to Lead
As the youngest candidate in the race, Pearce emphasizes the importance of youth engagement and forward-thinking leadership. She encourages young adults to step out of their comfort zones and actively shape the communities around them. On Instagram, she wrote, “The greatest gift has been the community that I’ve been blessed with and the opportunity to encourage young adults in their early 20s to step out of their comfort zone and be the change they’ve been advocating for since they were young. If you’re reading this and feeling inspired, I want you to know that the sky is the limit. Our time is NOW.”
Pearce’s campaign is not just about running for office—it’s about inspiring a generation to believe that age is not a barrier to leadership.
