As the brand nears its 30th anniversary this October, Lacy continues to grow her business in bold ways. At the same time, she is using her platform to open doors for others, proving that entrepreneurship can go hand in hand with purpose.

Luv’s Brownies Growth Driven by Events and Community Presence

Luv’s Brownies has seen steady growth, especially through its popular dessert truck, which now attends about 300 events every year. From local gatherings to major sports games, the brand has become a familiar and loved presence across the Bay Area.

In addition, the business serves more than 20,000 items annually and regularly appears at matches for teams like the San Jose Earthquakes and Bay FC at PayPal Stadium. This consistent visibility has helped strengthen its connection with the community while boosting brand recognition.

“Everyone loves when Luv’s Brownies are at the matches,” said Bianca Padilla, who works in event operations for the teams. Her statement reflects how the brand has become part of the fan experience at these events.

From College Idea to Nationally Recognized Bakery Brand

Lacy’s journey started while she was a student at San José State University. At the time, she worked three jobs to support herself, showing early signs of the determination that would later define her career.

Interestingly, a simple mistake in a recipe led to the creation of the brand’s signature heart-shaped brownie. What could have been a setback turned into a defining moment, helping Lacy build a product that would stand out in a crowded market.

Over time, that small idea grew into a nationally recognized brand known for both its creativity and its mission. The company was even featured on local television, highlighting how far it has come from its humble beginnings.

Overcoming Challenges and Building a Purpose-Driven Business

Lacy’s path was not without challenges. She later discovered she had dyslexia, which made traditional learning more difficult. However, instead of holding her back, it helped her tap into her creative strengths and think differently.

Her story has inspired many, including university leaders. “What if the brownies you baked in college ended up at the Super Bowl? That’s not a dream. That’s Andrea Lacy,” said Dr. Cynthia Teniente-Matson, president of San José State University.

Lacy has also made it clear that her success comes with responsibility. “Being a woman founder approaching 30 years in business is not just a milestone—it’s a responsibility,” she said. “We stand on the shoulders of women who created pathways before us. Our job is to widen those pathways for the next generation.”

Grit Scholarship Supports Students and Expands Educational Access

Beyond business growth, Lacy is focused on education through the Grit Scholarship. Now in its fifth year, the program supports students who show resilience and determination while pursuing higher education or vocational training.

Each year, up to three students receive $500 scholarships. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay about their personal journey, along with recommendations, proof of community service, enrollment verification, and financial need.

Applications for the 2026 scholarship close on May 27. Through this initiative, Lacy is helping students overcome barriers and continue their education, reflecting her belief in giving back.

Community Partnerships Strengthen Local Impact

Luv’s Brownies continues to build strong community ties, especially in Alameda County. The dessert truck regularly partners with local organizations, including the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and Fremont Street Eats.

These partnerships have helped the brand become a local favorite. According to Napoleon Batalao from the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, the company plays a key role in bringing people together through food and shared experiences.

From local events to large gatherings, Luv’s Brownies has created more than just a business—it has built a sense of community that continues to grow each year.
