A woman accused of firing multiple gunshots at the home of global music star Rihanna is now facing serious criminal charges that could lead to life in prison. Authorities say the alleged shooting took place at the singer’s residence in Beverly Hills while several people—including her partner and children—were inside the home.
The suspect, Ivanna Ortiz, 35, has been charged with 14 felony counts, including attempted murder. Prosecutors say the shooting was “willful, deliberate, and premeditated,” raising the possibility of a life sentence if she is convicted.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. However, officials say the case highlights the dangers of gun violence in residential neighborhoods.
Suspect Faces Multiple Felony Charges in Rihanna Home Shooting Case
According to court documents, Ortiz faces a total of 14 felony charges related to the shooting. These charges include attempted murder, 10 counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.
Prosecutors say the suspect allegedly drove to the home and fired several shots toward the property. The residence is owned by Rihanna, who lives there with her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky, and their three young children.
Authorities confirmed that eight people were inside the home at the time of the incident. This included the couple’s children—RZA, Riot, and their youngest daughter—as well as Rihanna’s mother and two members of the household staff.
If convicted of all charges, Ortiz could face a life sentence in a California state prison.
Prosecutors Speak Out About Danger of Gun Violence in Residential Areas
Officials have emphasized the seriousness of the alleged crime. Nathan J. Hochman, the District Attorney for Los Angeles County, addressed the incident during a news conference announcing the charges.
He warned that firing a weapon in a populated neighborhood can put many lives at risk.
“Opening fire in any populated neighborhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted,” Hochman said. “Thankfully, no one was injured in this shooting, but this careless violence will not be tolerated in our community.”
Prosecutors also revealed that the suspect allegedly fired shots toward a neighboring property where two people were present. Investigators are still working to determine where all the bullets landed.
Arrest and Court Proceedings for Ivanna Ortiz
After the alleged shooting, Ortiz reportedly fled the scene. However, authorities said she was quickly located and arrested in Sherman Oaks.
Her bail has been set at $1,875,000, reflecting the seriousness of the charges. Ortiz is scheduled to appear in court for her arraignment on March 25.
During a recent court hearing, she appeared wearing a blue inmate uniform and spoke with her lawyer through a glass partition. Her attorney, Jamarcus Bradford, initially entered a not guilty plea on her behalf but later withdrew it until the formal arraignment.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Public Defender’s Office confirmed that it has been appointed to represent her in the case.
“Because this matter is pending before the court, our office cannot comment on the allegations at this time,” a spokesperson said. “As in every case, we will work to ensure that our client receives the full protections guaranteed under the Constitution.”
Investigation Reveals Alleged Online Posts About Rihanna
Investigators have also looked into the suspect’s online activity. According to reports, Ortiz is a resident of Florida and has had previous arrests.
A Facebook profile believed to belong to her contains several posts referencing Rihanna. One post reportedly addressed the singer directly, writing, “Say something to me directly instead of sneaking around like you talking to me.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether those posts played a role in the alleged incident. However, investigators continue to review the suspect’s actions leading up to the shooting.
Despite the frightening nature of the event, officials noted that no one in the home was harmed. The case now moves forward in court as prosecutors seek accountability for the alleged attack.
