Actress Karen Pittman is stepping into the beauty spotlight as the face of a new campaign with MERIT Beauty, highlighting makeup designed to work beautifully on women of color. The collaboration celebrates simplicity, confidence, and the idea that beauty products should enhance natural features rather than hide them.
The campaign centers on the launch of MERIT’s Signature Lip Lightweight Lip Blush, a product designed to offer a soft, wearable color that fits into everyday life. Pittman’s partnership with the brand reflects a shared mission: creating beauty that feels effortless, inclusive, and accessible to women of every shade and age.
Karen Pittman Leads an Inclusive Beauty Campaign
Pittman’s role in the campaign reflects her long-standing belief that beauty should never be limited by rigid standards. Instead, she says beauty should fit naturally into the rhythms of everyday life. That message is at the heart of the campaign, which focuses on joy, ease, and confidence.
“At this stage of my life, I need things to be simple, easy, and effortless,” Pittman explained in an interview. “I want something that’s going to carry me all the way through the day. I don’t have time to be in front of a mirror all day—but I do want to feel pretty while doing the work of life.”
That philosophy aligns closely with MERIT’s approach to cosmetics. The brand focuses on clean, minimalist products that enhance natural beauty rather than covering it. As a result, Pittman’s presence in the campaign highlights a growing shift in the beauty industry toward authenticity and inclusivity.
From Customer to Campaign Star: A Full-Circle Partnership
Interestingly, Pittman’s relationship with MERIT began long before the campaign. The actress first discovered the brand in 2022 while shopping at a Sephora store in Brooklyn. At the time, she was searching for clean beauty products that would work well with her skin tone.
However, she initially struggled with many clean makeup formulas. “Up until that point, clean makeup hadn’t been working for me—it was chalky and made my skin look gray,” Pittman shared. “Then I tried MERIT, and the colors actually looked good on my skin. I remember thinking more women of color need to know about this.”
Years later, that personal experience evolved into a professional partnership. Pittman says the collaboration feels authentic because she was already a loyal customer before the brand approached her. “I was a client before they ever came to me,” she said. “This wasn’t about me fitting into a beauty standard. It was about finding a brand that aligned with the beauty I already represent.”
Signature Lip Blush Redefines Bold Lip Color
The campaign also introduces MERIT’s Signature Lip Lightweight Lip Blush, a product designed to blur the line between lipstick and lip balm. Unlike traditional lip color, the formula is sheer and buildable, allowing users to control how bold or subtle the color appears.
For Pittman, that flexibility is one of the product’s biggest strengths. “It’s like amplifying what you already have,” she explained. “You can swipe it on lightly for everyday, or build it up when you want more intensity.”
She also shared some of her favorite shades. Pittman often reaches for colors like Bespoke and Andie, which closely match her natural lip tone. Recently, she has also been enjoying Vendôme, a soft pink nude shade that pairs well with a touch of gloss for a polished yet effortless look.
A Beauty Philosophy Rooted in Joy and Confidence
Beyond makeup products, Pittman believes beauty is deeply connected to how women care for themselves. For her, beauty rituals are less about trends and more about moments of calm and personal reflection.
“A lot of it happens at night,” she said. “I put away my devices, turn on music, make tea, take a long shower or bath, and read. Beauty is about calm, contentment, and the people I love.”
This approach reflects the message behind the campaign: beauty should feel natural, joyful, and supportive of everyday life. Pittman also emphasized the importance of representation in the beauty industry, noting that women of color deserve products that truly work for their skin tones.
“I truly believe there is no single beauty standard,” she said. “The question now is: what brands fit around you? MERIT does that beautifully. Clean beauty is for us—and it doesn’t make us look ashy.”
Ultimately, Pittman hopes the partnership encourages more women of color to feel welcomed in beauty spaces. Her message is simple but powerful: every woman deserves products that celebrate who she is.
