Serena Williams Leads Groundbreaking Barbie Dream Team for International Women’s Day
Mattel is celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8 by launching its first-ever Barbie™ Dream Team, honoring women who have made groundbreaking contributions across industries. Leading the team is tennis legend Serena Williams, a global icon with 23 Grand Slam singles titles, a thriving business portfolio, and a reputation for inspiring women worldwide.
This celebration will include one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls modeled after these trailblazing women, special Barbie Dream Days™ retail experiences, and the debut of Barbie Dream Fest, a multi-day fan festival highlighting women’s achievements and empowerment. Through these initiatives, Mattel aims to inspire the next generation of girls to pursue their dreams with confidence and ambition.
Serena Williams’ Impact Beyond Tennis
Serena Williams has long used her platform to support women-led businesses and empower underrepresented communities. In 2014, she founded Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm that has backed over 60 companies, including fintech innovators like Propel and Cointracker, as well as lifestyle brands like Daily Harvest and MasterClass.
Through Serena Ventures, 54% of funding supports women-led businesses, while 47% supports Black entrepreneurs, and 79% of investments target underrepresented groups, including Latino entrepreneurs. Williams’ work shows that her influence extends far beyond the tennis court, making her a fitting leader for a program designed to uplift and celebrate women globally.
Barbie Dolls Celebrate Women’s Confidence and Leadership
The Serena Williams Barbie Dream Team doll captures her poised and assertive nature, featuring a black-and-white blazer and her signature curly hair. The doll represents not just her tennis achievements but also her journey as an entrepreneur and role model for girls everywhere.
Mattel’s Dream Team dolls aim to highlight the strength, confidence, and individuality of women, showcasing figures from diverse backgrounds and industries. Alongside Serena, the Dream Team features trailblazers such as Regina Sirvent Alvarado, a professional race car driver, and Smriti Mandhana, India’s first woman cricketer to score a century in all formats.

Barbie Dream Days and Dream Fest Engage Fans Globally
Fans are invited to Barbie Dream Days, a global event featuring limited-time promotions on dolls and accessories at retailers like Walmart, Amazon, and Target from March 8 to 15. These events encourage young girls to engage with role models, celebrate ambition, and explore their own passions.
Additionally, Barbie Dream Fest, scheduled for March 27–29 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will showcase inspiring speakers, immersive experiences, and interactive sessions celebrating the evolution of Barbie and women’s achievements. Serena Williams herself will participate, sharing her journey and insights to inspire girls and women attending the festival.
Celebrating Women-Led Brands and Empowerment
To complement the Dream Team launch, Mattel is collaborating with six female-founded brands across beauty, fashion, and beverages, including Barbie™ x Besita Boots, Unique Vintage, and Moment, promoting self-expression, inclusivity, and mindfulness. These partnerships emphasize the importance of supporting women entrepreneurs and spotlight the creativity and strength of women-led businesses.
Through the Barbie Dream Team and related initiatives, Serena Williams and Mattel are sending a clear message: women’s achievements deserve celebration, and young girls should be empowered to pursue any dream they envision.
