Hollywood’s brightest stars are preparing for one of the most meaningful celebrations of the year. Marsai Martin has officially been tapped to host the annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood event, a night dedicated to honoring the brilliance, power, and legacy of Black women in film and television.

Set to take place on Thursday, March 12, at the iconic Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel, this year’s ceremony promises inspiration, star power, and unforgettable moments. With industry heavyweights like Kerry Washington among the honorees, Martin will guide a room filled with excellence.

Marsai Martin Takes Center Stage at Essence Black Women In Hollywood

Marsai Martin stepping into the host role marks a powerful full-circle moment. Known for her work both in front of and behind the camera, she represents the next generation of Black creatives reshaping Hollywood. Therefore, her presence as host signals both celebration and evolution.

As host, Martin will lead the evening’s program, introduce honorees, and help set the tone for a night rooted in empowerment. Her sharp wit, confidence, and industry experience make her uniquely suited to steer a ceremony that prioritizes authenticity and impact.

Moreover, the event will feature a performance by Grammy Award–winning artist Mya, adding musical excellence to an already dynamic lineup.

Kerry Washington and 2026 Honorees Celebrated for Impact and Legacy

This year’s honorees reflect a broad spectrum of talent and leadership. Alongside Kerry Washington, the ceremony will recognize Chase Infiniti, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Zinzi Coogler for their contributions to the industry.

Each woman represents a different lane within Hollywood—from acting to producing—yet they share a common thread of influence and cultural impact. Consequently, the night is not about competition. Instead, it is about recognition and giving Black women their flowers while they can receive them.

Presenters are also set to bring major star power, including Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Coogler, Delroy Lindo, Jurnee Smollett, and Teyana Taylor. Their participation further underscores the importance of the event within the entertainment community.

Luminary Spotlight Honors the Women of ‘Sinners’

In addition to individual honorees, this year’s Luminary Spotlight shines on the women behind the film Sinners. The spotlight celebrates creatives such as Autumn Durald Arkapaw, Hannah Beachler, Jayme Lawson, Ruth E. Carter, Shunika Terry-Jennings, and Wunmi Mosaku, along with Zinzi Coogler.

By highlighting these women, the event emphasizes that Black excellence extends beyond the spotlight. Cinematographers, costume designers, producers, and behind-the-scenes leaders are equally vital in shaping culture.

As always, Black Women In Hollywood is about creating a safe and affirming space where Black women feel seen, heard, uplifted, and supported. The theme “Off Script” reinforces that authenticity remains the guiding principle of the night.

The red carpet pre-show will stream live on Essence’s YouTube page, offering fans a front-row seat to the glamour before the invite-only luncheon begins.
