A’Ja Wilson has been named Time Magazine’s 2025 Athlete of the Year, marking a historic milestone in women’s sports. She is the second Black woman to receive the honor, joining gymnast Simone Biles, who won in 2021. The Las Vegas Aces star claimed her third WNBA championship this year, further cementing her status as one of basketball’s all-time greats.

Wilson’s recognition highlights her dominance on the court and her growing influence off it. Fans and analysts alike are celebrating her record-breaking achievements and leadership in the WNBA.

Historic Achievements on the Court

Wilson’s 2025 season was unprecedented. She became the first WNBA player to win a championship, Finals MVP, league MVP, and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season.

The 29-year-old is a three-time WNBA champion, a three-time Defensive Player of the Year, a six-time All-Star, and a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist. These accolades showcase her consistency and skill at the highest level.
