A Glamorous Tribute to a Timeless Icon
Shannon Thornton lit up the Ebony Power 100 Gala with a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Whitney Houston. The actress turned heads in a vintage chocolate ruched halter gown by Marc Bouwer — the same designer who dressed Houston for some of her most iconic moments in the 1990s.
“I remember growing up seeing her in one of these dresses and realizing recently they were all made by Marc Bouwer,” Thornton shared. “He was kind enough to lend me one tonight.” The look captured the spirit of 90s glamour while celebrating the lasting influence of Black women who shaped music, film, and fashion.
Channeling Whitney Houston’s Signature Glamour
Thornton revealed her inspiration in a HelloBeautiful feature, allowing cameras to follow her as she prepared for the gala. On Instagram, she wrote, “An ode to ‘90s glamour last night at the EBONY Power 100 Gala. Wearing vintage @marcbouwer from 1996. He’s made several versions of this dress for Whitney Houston. So grateful he let me wear one of them on this special night.”
The gown’s elegant draping and rich hue perfectly complemented Thornton’s glowing skin and radiant confidence. Her tribute not only honored Houston’s unmatched legacy but also highlighted the ongoing influence of Black beauty and fashion on red-carpet culture.
Shannon Thornton’s Bright Career and Bold Dreams
Beyond the red carpet, Thornton continues to make waves in Hollywood. The P-Valley actress stars in Tyler Perry’s latest romantic comedy, Finding Joy, premiering November 5 on Prime. “It’s about a girl who is a hopeless romantic and she gets an invite from someone she’s really fond of to go to Colorado, and things just go awry,” she explained.
Known for her charm and screen presence, Thornton also shared her beauty secrets. “I love a good beat, so I would have to say bad hair day,” she joked when asked to choose between hair or makeup. She added that mascara is her go-to essential and revealed one of her biggest dreams: “I would love to work with Al Pacino. I’m a huge fan. I’m reading his memoir Sunny Boy, I’m manifesting that.”
A Star Who Honors the Past While Owning Her Present
Thornton’s tribute to Whitney Houston was more than a fashion statement—it was a reflection of sisterhood, nostalgia, and self-expression. By stepping into a gown once worn by one of her idols, she bridged generations of artistry and style. Her presence at the Ebony Power 100 Gala symbolized what the event celebrates every year: Black excellence, resilience, and brilliance across every field.
Thornton continues to shine on and off screen, embodying the same fearless confidence that defined Whitney Houston’s legacy.
