Dr. Yaba Blay Joins Most Incredible Studio to Elevate Black Women’s Stories

Dr. Yaba Blay, the cultural worker and scholar behind the popular brand Professional Black Girl, has joined Most Incredible Studio as its first Professional Black Girl-in-Residence. The appointment marks a powerful moment where art, culture, and storytelling come together to celebrate the lives and memories of Black women.

Based in New York, Most Incredible Studio is known for transforming memories into creative and collectible LEGO brick-based art. With Dr. Blay’s influence, the studio will expand its mission to honor the beauty, brilliance, and everyday joy of Black womanhood.

“When Syreeta [Gates, the studio’s founder] mentioned she wanted to infuse Black girl culture into the studio’s canon, I told her there was no way I would allow her to do that without ME!” Dr. Blay said with a smile. “The idea of merging what she does with what we do and how we do it is beyond exciting—it’s necessary.”

A Residency Centered on Black Culture and Creative Memory

The residency will include the creation of a limited-edition LEGO collectible designed by Dr. Blay. Each collectible will come with premium packaging, a custom booklet, and special keepsake elements that tell deeper stories about identity, memory, and legacy.

The program will also feature digital activations, community conversations, and behind-the-scenes content that share the creative process and inspiration behind the work. This collaboration aims to make history tangible—one LEGO piece at a time—while celebrating the power of cultural memory through play.

Founder Syreeta Gates said Dr. Blay’s legacy of centering Black women made her the perfect partner for this next chapter of the studio.

“Her work in celebrating Black women’s joy, power, and genius makes her an exceptional partner for what’s next,” Gates said.

The Power of Merging Art, Scholarship, and Black Womanhood

Most Incredible Studio’s roots are deeply tied to hip-hop culture and fan communities like #BlackGirlsWhoLego. The company’s mission has always been to make memories tangible through art and creative storytelling. Dr. Blay’s work builds on that legacy by bringing a new dimension of cultural depth and emotional resonance.

Her involvement represents a meeting point between scholarship, identity, and artistry. By using LEGO bricks as a medium, she transforms everyday objects into symbols of memory and pride—redefining what it means to preserve culture through creativity.

Together, Dr. Blay and Most Incredible Studio are proving that storytelling can take many forms. From classrooms to LEGO sets, they are creating spaces where Black women’s stories are not just remembered but celebrated.

Honoring Black Women Through Creative Collaboration

Dr. Blay’s Professional Black Girl movement has long uplifted the brilliance and individuality of Black women across the diaspora. Now, through this new partnership, she is giving those stories a physical form—crafted from one of the world’s most beloved creative tools.

“Merging what she does with what we do isn’t just about art—it’s about legacy,” Blay shared. “This collaboration is a celebration of our collective memory and imagination.”

The residency stands as both an artistic statement and a cultural commitment. It reminds the world that Black women’s stories deserve to be seen, felt, and built—piece by piece.
