A Legacy Built From Love and Loss

Tenisha Warner has announced a powerful way to honor her late husband, actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner. Almost two months after his tragic passing in Costa Rica, she revealed the launch of the Warner Family Foundation on September 12. The foundation will carry forward Malcolm-Jamal’s creative spirit through the Malcolm-Jamal Warner Creative Legacy Fund.

The announcement came on an emotional day. The very next day would have been the couple’s eighth wedding anniversary. Tenisha shared the news in a heartfelt Instagram post, thanking the community for surrounding her family with love during this time of grief.

Launch of the Warner Family Foundation

The Warner Family Foundation has one clear mission — to nurture and support young artists. Its Creative Legacy Fund will provide scholarships to rising talents between the ages of 14 and 22. The program is especially designed for young creators whose art crosses boundaries, just like Malcolm-Jamal’s work as an actor, poet, and musician.

The fund will support poets who paint, musicians who write, and performers who push art beyond limits. Its guiding principles are freedom, originality, interdisciplinary creativity, and lasting legacy. For Tenisha, this foundation is more than a tribute — it is a gift for future generations, including her and Malcolm-Jamal’s daughter.

River & Ember: Family Healing Through Art

Alongside the foundation, Tenisha and her daughter will also launch River & Ember. This initiative offers seasonal toolkits to help families connect through rituals, storytelling, and art. The first toolkit is set to debut in Spring 2026.

River & Ember also plans to release a companion app. Unlike most apps designed for either adults or children, this one is meant to be shared together. It is described as a “digital hearth” — a quiet place where parents and children create sacred time, not just screen time.

Tenisha Warner’s Heartfelt Tribute

In her post, Tenisha shared how much her husband meant to her. “I can still hear my husband’s laugh, still feel the way he made room for every part of me — every tear, every dream,” she wrote. She described him as both a river, steady and moving toward purpose, and an ember, glowing with encouragement.

Tenisha also reflected on how their relationship inspired River & Ember. Together, they learned the importance of being fully seen and valued, even in moments of vulnerability. “We found that in each other — a safe space for vulnerability,” she said.

A Foundation That Lights the Way Forward

The Warner Family Foundation and River & Ember stand as living testaments to Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s legacy. Through scholarships, creative programs, and family-centered healing, these projects aim to uplift young Black artists and strengthen bonds within families.

By building spaces for creativity, love, and authenticity, Tenisha Warner is transforming her grief into hope. The foundation not only keeps Malcolm-Jamal’s spirit alive but also lights the way for the next generation of creators.
