Riri Williams Shines in Her Own Show

Marvel fans are finally getting what they asked for. Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart, has her own series on Disney+. Actress Dominique Thorne plays the young genius. She first appeared in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and quickly became a fan favorite.

Now, Ironheart is flying solo with six episodes, and there’s something extra special. The show is driven by Black women, both in front of and behind the camera. That alone makes Ironheart one of the most exciting Marvel projects yet.

Meet the Women Acting in Ironheart

Dominique Thorne leads the show as Riri, but she’s not alone. Lyric Ross plays Riri’s best friend Natalie Washington, a key sidekick in the story. Ross is known for her role in “This Is Us,” and fans are eager to see her shine in the MCU.

Other stars include Cree Summer and Regan Aliyah. Summer’s role is still under wraps, but Aliyah plays Zelma Stanton, a character from the Doctor Strange comics. Anji White joins the cast as Riri’s mother, Ronnie Williams.

Black Women Writers Behind the Scenes

Chinaka Hodge is the show’s creator and head writer. She’s known for her work on AMC’s “Snowpiercer” and brings bold storytelling to Ironheart. Hodge worked closely with Ryan Coogler and Zinzi Coogler, who helped produce the show.

Hodge explained Riri’s new drive in a Marvel podcast, saying, “She knows she’s a genius… she’s now motivated to go out and get it for herself.”

Jacqueline and Francesca Gailes, who wrote for “She-Hulk,” also joined the team. Alongside Malorie Howard, they each wrote one episode. This team effort brings diverse views and strong Black female voices into the MCU.

The Directors Bringing the Vision to Life

Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes directed all six episodes. Bailey is known for “Dear White People” and “Brown Girls.” Barnes has worked on “Atlanta” and “Loot.” Both bring experience with authentic Black storytelling.

Together, they created powerful visuals and meaningful scenes. Their approach helps Ironheart stand out, showing the beauty of the Black experience through a superhero lens.

Creative Power Behind the Camera

Shannon Baker Davis and Deanna Nowell led editing, making sure each scene flows with energy and purpose. Their work gives the series its polished look.

Zinzi Coogler also played a major role as executive producer. With her leadership, the Proximity Media team brought Ironheart to life.

A New Era for Marvel and Black Women in Film

Ironheart marks a major moment for Marvel and for Black women creatives. It shows what’s possible when the right people get the chance to lead.

Fans can expect powerful storytelling, fresh visuals, and deep representation. Ironheart begins streaming with the first three episodes on June 24, followed by the final three on July 1.
