Smoothie Queen of Racine: A $1M Milestone
DeSario Turner left a stable job at Harley-Davidson to chase her dream — and it paid off big time. Within her first year of opening a Smoothie King in Racine, Wisconsin, she earned over $1 million in net sales.
Her store didn’t just do well — it broke records. In its first week alone, it made over $38,000, the highest-ever opening for the brand. That placed her location in the top 50 among more than 1,200 Smoothie Kings across the country.
From Harley-Davidson to Health and Wellness
Turner spent nearly 18 years working at Harley-Davidson, leading ecommerce operations across the U.S. and Canada. Even with a successful corporate career, she always dreamed of owning her own business.
While working full-time, she explored different side hustles like rental properties and vending machines. But when she discovered the Smoothie King franchise, something clicked. The focus on health, community, and growth lined up perfectly with her personal values.
She began the franchise process in 2021 while still at her job. For two years, she juggled both roles until her store finally opened its doors in 2023.
Record-Breaking Success Built on Community
Turner’s Smoothie King location launched with a bang. Despite being in a small city where the brand was unknown, her store drew large crowds. Customers loved the healthy drinks, and the local vibe made them feel seen.
She didn’t just sell smoothies — she connected with the community. Turner partnered with schools, gyms, and youth programs. She donated smoothies at events and supported local fundraisers, building loyalty and trust.
“She believed in herself, did the work, and chose a location that gave her business the best chance to thrive,” said Katherine Meariman, VP of Training at Smoothie King.
Turning Success Into Legacy and Generational Wealth
Today, Turner is already planning for the future. Her 19-year-old daughter helps manage the store, learning every part of the business. Turner sees this as more than a job — it’s a path to ownership and financial freedom.
“Ultimately, this is her business,” she said. “I’m showing her everything now so she understands what it takes — because it’s for her future.”
Turner also has her sights on expansion, with a second store already in development. Her journey proves that betting on yourself can be the best investment.
Her advice to others? “Invest that current and energy into yourself and build something for you and your family. Go for it.”
