A new luxury retreat in Atlanta is giving mothers much-needed care after childbirth. Brittany Starobin, a mom of four, opened Haven Postnatal Retreat inside the Four Seasons hotel in October 2024. This five-star, Black-owned retreat is the first of its kind in Atlanta and the South.

For Starobin, this retreat is about more than luxury. It’s about healing, support, and giving moms the care they often miss in the weeks after giving birth.

A First-Of-Its-Kind Postnatal Retreat in the South

Haven Postnatal Retreat was created for new mothers up to 12 weeks after giving birth. The goal is to help moms rest, heal, and regain their strength during the “fourth trimester.”

The retreat offers a range of services, including 24-hour care from nurses and doulas, spa treatments, gourmet meals, mental health support, and classes. Mothers can stay for as long as they need, with rates starting at $790 per night.

Inspired by Personal Struggles With Postpartum Depression

Brittany Starobin’s idea came from her own painful experience. After giving birth three times, she battled postpartum depression each time. She noticed a lack of care and follow-up for mothers once they left the hospital.

“There’s this lack of support that currently exists in America,” Starobin said. “We understand the baby needs checkups, but the mother is often left behind.”

She wanted to change that. After seeing postnatal retreats growing in other countries, Starobin decided to bring one to her hometown.

Haven Offers More Than Just Pampering

While Haven is located inside a luxury hotel, it isn’t just about five-star comfort. It’s a space for physical, mental, and emotional healing. Guests receive personal care plans, support from professionals, and access to high-end baby products.

The retreat also addresses serious health concerns. Georgia has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the U.S. Many of those deaths happen within 42 days after childbirth, including deaths linked to suicide.

“[Haven] came from wanting to be that agent for change,” Starobin explained. “There’s more to this issue than what people see.”

A Safe, Supportive Space for New Mothers

Starobin designed Haven as a place where mothers can be heard, supported, and understood. She knows firsthand how overwhelming those early days of motherhood can be.

“Your hormones are fluctuating, and sometimes you just need to be extended some grace,” she shared. “To be heard and met where you’re at.”

The retreat aims to provide that grace, offering moms a space to rest and connect with others who understand their experience.

A Vision to Support Mothers of All Backgrounds

Though Haven currently offers luxury care, Starobin hopes to make it accessible to more mothers. She plans to partner with corporations and local organizations to offer care packages and stays to moms from different financial backgrounds.

Her mission is clear: no mother should feel alone or unsupported after childbirth.

“Seeing those other women get the support and guidance you maybe didn’t know you needed — it’s amazing,” Starobin said. “It’s pure joy.”
