NFL star Myles Garrett has made a powerful gesture to honor his mother’s legacy. The Cleveland Browns player recently donated $25,000 to Hampton University, a place close to his heart. His generous gift celebrates Black excellence in both academics and sports.

The donation followed Garrett’s visit to the Virginia-based HBCU. While there, he joined a panel highlighting the importance of STEM education and opportunities beyond sports.

Myles Garrett Invests in the Next Generation at Hampton University

Garrett traveled to Hampton University for a special event on STEM education. He spoke alongside Brandon Martin, the CEO of Johnson Energy Storage. The two discussed how students can aim for careers in science, technology, engineering, and math.

The visit mattered to Garrett because of his personal connection to the school. His mother, Audrey Garrett, once walked those same halls as a student-athlete. “This place shaped my mom’s life, so it means a lot to give back,” Garrett shared during the visit.

A Gift Inspired by a Mother’s Remarkable Journey

Audrey Garrett is no ordinary mom. She earned a track scholarship to Hampton University and became an All-American athlete. Beyond athletics, she’s a leader in education and law. She is currently a PhD candidate in strategic leadership and a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Today, Audrey is also part of the Southern University Law Center community. Her story continues to inspire her son and others who value education and determination. Garrett’s donation honors her journey and encourages students to follow big dreams both on and off the field.

Myles Garrett’s Career Filled with Record-Breaking Moments

Garrett is not just a generous donor but one of the NFL’s top players. Since joining the league in 2017, he’s made headlines for his powerful plays. The Cleveland Browns selected him as the number one pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

He’s a six-time Pro Bowler and won the Defensive Player of the Year title in 2023. In 2024, Garrett became the 45th player in NFL history to record 100 career sacks. He was also the only player to do so before turning 29.

A Leader On and Off the Field

Earlier this year, Garrett signed a contract extension with the Browns worth an average of $40 million a year. This deal makes him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history. Despite a rough season for the Browns, Garrett remained a bright light for the team and fans.

His recent donation shows he’s just as dedicated to uplifting his community as he is to leading on the field. “We need to show the next generation they can be great in any space they choose,” Garrett told students at the event.

Inspiring Students Beyond the Game

Garrett and Martin’s panel highlighted how important it is for young Black students to explore careers beyond athletics. They encouraged students to stay open to science, technology, and leadership paths that can help shape communities.

With this $25,000 donation, Garrett hopes to help Hampton students chase bold dreams. His visit and gift remind everyone that true greatness comes from giving back.
