Curating a New Narrative for Black Artists

Tatianna Mack is making space for Black stories in the art world. Her exhibitions highlight the richness, depth, and power of Black voices.

Her first major show, I Got A Story To Tell, honored her grandmother and celebrated the beauty and complexity of Black women. “More often than not, you’re the only one in the room,” Mack said. That sense of isolation became her fuel.

The Birth of The Art of Tati

To expand her reach, Mack launched The Art of Tati, a blog-turned-community space. It began from her need for representation in museum and gallery settings.

“Representation matters deeply to me,” she said. Today, the platform connects Black and Brown people to the art world. She organizes museum meet-ups to help visitors feel seen, connected, and inspired.

    Championing Emerging Black Talent

Mack’s mission goes beyond storytelling—it’s about uplifting others. She actively supports rising artists like Blu Murphy, Moses Salihou, and Brittney S. Price.

“They deserve greater visibility and support,” she emphasized. Her exhibitions offer them that platform. Mack ensures their work is not just seen, but valued.

    Practical Tips for Art Newcomers

Mack encourages new art lovers to start with curiosity. Visit galleries. Follow museums online. Learn about artists and their stories.

She also offers smart advice for future collectors. “Build relationships with galleries. Many offer payment plans.” Her focus is on access, not exclusivity.

A Dream Born at The Met

Mack’s passion started in second grade during a field trip to The Met. “I fell in love with art during that visit,” she recalled.

Later, she found mentorship under gallerist Tanya Weddemire. Assisting with exhibitions deepened her love for curating. It also shaped her understanding of storytelling through art.

A Heart for Community and Change

Mack wants her name to stand for love, kindness, and community. “I want to help others fulfill their dreams,” she said.

Through every exhibition and conversation, she spreads that message. Her work transforms both galleries and the lives they touch.

Looking Ahead: Bigger Dreams, Bigger Impact

Next, Mack is leading a panel at Industry City titled Buy Art With Your Heart: Young Professionals Edition. The May 17 event will encourage Millennials and Gen Z to explore art collecting.

Yet, her biggest dream remains: curating at the Brooklyn Museum. With her heart, vision, and drive, that goal feels close. And she’ll bring her community with her.
