Legendary activist Angela Davis is preparing to headline the largest Black feminist conference ever held in the United States. The event, titled Get Free: Black Feminist Reunion, will take place from June 5–7, 2025, in New Orleans.
Organizers promise a powerful and historic gathering, as Davis brings her voice to inspire a new generation of Black feminists. Her keynote speech is expected to be a major highlight of the three-day event.
Get Free Conference to Spark Unity and Inspiration
The Get Free conference is more than just a meeting. It is a celebration of Black feminist power and unity. Inspired by the groundbreaking 1973 National Black Women’s Organization conference, this event aims to connect leaders, thinkers, and everyday women fighting for justice.
Panels, discussions, and networking sessions will fill the three days. Attendees will hear from powerful voices like Domonique Morgan, Devin-Norelle, and Shana Griffin. The event promises to build collective consciousness and offer new tools for activism.
Angela Davis Brings Decades of Activism to the Stage
Angela Davis has spent over 50 years fighting for justice. Her activism first gained national attention in the late 1960s when she became a symbol of the Black liberation and feminist movements.
She was a member of the Communist Party USA and connected to the Black Panther Party in Los Angeles. In 1969, she was controversially fired from her teaching job at the University of California because of her political ties. A judge later ruled the firing unlawful, but Davis continued to face backlash for her outspoken views.
A Legacy Recognized Across the World
Throughout her life, Davis has earned global recognition. She received the prestigious Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union and was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.
In 2020, Time magazine named her its 1971 “Woman of the Year” in a special edition honoring 100 influential women. Davis has also written several important books on abolition and feminism, such as Abolition. Feminism. Now. and Abolition: Politics, Practices, Promises, Vol. 1.
As a founding member of Critical Resistance, Davis continues to push for the end of the prison industrial complex.
