RIMON is not your typical R&B artist. Born in Eritrea and raised in a small Dutch town, she is now one of the most exciting voices blending R&B, Afrobeats, and alternative music. Her bold sound and fearless spirit are reshaping what it means to be a global artist.
Her music tells deeply personal stories, filled with emotion, cultural pride, and a strong voice. With support from icons like Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell, and love from fashion brands, RIMON’s star continues to rise far beyond Amsterdam.
A Unique Sound Shaped by R&B, Afrobeats, and Indie Vibes
RIMON’s sound is not easy to label. It lives somewhere between genres. She mixes rich R&B vocals with Afrobeats rhythms and the freedom of alternative music. This combination gives her music a raw, fresh feel that stands out in today’s crowded music scene.
“I grew up on Destiny’s Child and Alicia Keys,” she shared. “But then I found Santi Gold. Seeing a Black alternative girl was everything for me.” Inspired by hip-hop innovators like Kendrick Lamar and Tyler, the Creator, she takes a similar approach—starting with R&B and stretching it into something new.
Pushing Genre Limits With Children of the Night
RIMON’s debut album, Children of the Night, proves her ability to blend sounds while staying true to her roots. The album reflects influences from across the globe and carries deep emotion in every track.
“Artists like Kendrick would take hip-hop and push it further,” she said. “I wanted to do the same for R&B. I combined alternative, indie, Afrobeats, and made it mine.” One standout track, Build Me a House, shows just how vulnerable and powerful her lyrics can be.
From Small Town Girl to Amsterdam’s Creative Scene
Growing up in a Dutch town with only 16,000 people, RIMON craved something more. “There was no diversity. I had to sneak into Amsterdam at 14 to find creative people like me,” she said. It was in Amsterdam that her music journey truly began.
She dove into the city’s underground music scene, building connections and exploring new sounds. That early hustle helped shape her into the bold artist she is today. Her fearless pursuit of creativity made her a rare voice in a Dutch scene that had few global breakout stars.
A Story of Resilience Inspired by Her Mother
RIMON was raised by a single mother who worked hard to support her family. “My mom had to hustle. She was the boss of the house,” RIMON said. That strength shaped RIMON’s mindset and her music.
Her mother had high hopes for her, expecting her to become a doctor or lawyer. But RIMON dropped out of school at 17 to pursue music full-time. “She was disappointed and scared,” RIMON admitted. “But once things started rolling, she got it.” Now, that same resilience lives on in RIMON’s lyrics and life.
Breaking Barriers on the Global Stage
Today, RIMON is recognized by stars like Giveon, EarthGang, Jorja Smith, and even Kendrick Lamar himself. “I met Kendrick once—he was the nicest guy,” she said. “It made me realize I don’t idolize people anymore. I’ve stepped into my own space.”
Beyond music, fashion brands also see her creative vision. She uses style as a tool to express stories just like she does in her songs. And her visuals are just as thoughtful as her lyrics.
Her goal? “I want people to feel they can make bold decisions for their lives and stand firm,” RIMON said. “Trying is better than the regret of not trying.”
