Wendy Williams Brings on Top Lawyer Joe Tacopina to Fight for Her Freedom

Wendy Williams is not backing down in her battle for independence. The media icon has hired well-known attorney Joe Tacopina, who once defended rapper A$AP Rocky, to help her challenge a court-appointed guardianship.

In a recent interview with NewsNation, Tacopina confirmed his involvement. “Yes, I am representing her, I’m her personal attorney right now,” he said. “It’s a convoluted process… the last thing they want to do is see my face in that courtroom.”

Tacopina Calls Her Situation ‘A True Injustice’

The celebrity lawyer is no stranger to high-stakes cases. He previously represented A$AP Rocky during his 2025 felony assault trial, which ended in a not guilty verdict. Now, he’s calling Wendy’s case a “true injustice.”

Back in March, he appeared on the 2 Angry Men podcast, where he discussed the Saving Wendy documentary. He made it clear that he sees Wendy’s legal situation as deeply unfair. His entry into the case signals a major move in what could be a long legal battle.

Wendy Was Placed Under Guardianship After Dementia Diagnosis

In early 2022, Wells Fargo froze Wendy’s accounts. The bank told the New York Supreme Court it believed she might be an “incapacitated person” and needed a guardian. Shortly after, a court-appointed guardian took control of her finances and well-being.

In February 2024, her team revealed that Wendy had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Since then, she has been living in an assisted living facility.

Wendy Williams Publicly Fights to Prove She’s Mentally Fit

Despite the diagnosis, Wendy has insisted that she is of sound mind. In recent months, she has spoken to the media, saying she wants control of her life back. In a dramatic moment, she even dropped a note out of her facility window that read, “Help! Wendy!!”

After the note made headlines, she was taken to a hospital for a medical check. Reports say she passed a cognitive exam, adding more fuel to her fight for freedom.

#FreeWendy Movement Gains Support From Fans and Celebrities

Wendy’s fans have not stayed silent. Many joined the #FreeWendy movement, demanding her release from guardianship. Some even held rallies in her name, where she tearfully thanked them for their support.

With Joe Tacopina now in her corner, supporters hope this marks the beginning of a successful legal turnaround for Wendy. Whether or not the courts agree remains to be seen, but one thing is clear—Wendy Williams is not giving up.
