LSU Makes History with Record-Breaking Win

Louisiana State University (LSU) made a statement in the NCAA Tournament, securing a dominant 103-48 victory over San Diego State. The Tigers set a new school record for the most points in a tournament game, surpassing their 102-point performance in the 2023 championship.

Star guard Flau’Jae Johnson led the charge, scoring 22 points in her highly anticipated return. Teammate Aneesah Morrow added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, further cementing LSU’s dominance. The Tigers shot an impressive 55.6% from beyond the arc and outrebounded San Diego State 53-31.

Flau’Jae Johnson Shines in Return from Injury

Johnson missed the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Tournament due to a right shin injury, but she came back with a mission. Wearing a compression sleeve, she showed no signs of slowing down.

“I told myself when I came back that I wanted to be the energy for the team,” Johnson said. “I know that’s what we needed.”

This was Johnson’s fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament game scoring at least 20 points. Her performance helped LSU dominate early, setting the tone for a historic night.

Morrow Adds to Her Double-Double Legacy

Aneesah Morrow continued her impressive season with yet another double-double. Her 12-point, 12-rebound effort marked her 27th double-double of the season and the 102nd of her college career.

Morrow’s consistency in scoring and rebounding has been crucial for LSU, providing the team with a strong inside presence.

“I felt we always made the right plays,” Johnson said. “It helped everybody; it balanced the floor. That’s what we’ve been practicing on.”

What’s Next for LSU?

With a 29-5 record, LSU moves on to face Florida State in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The matchup will be broadcast on ESPN on March 24 at 5 p.m. CT.

LSU is aiming for its second national championship in three years. If the Tigers continue their strong play, they could be on their way to another deep tournament run.
