A Historic Walk Into the Record Books
Ololade Ayelabola has set a new Guinness World Record by walking 77.75 miles in heels over five days. The 26-year-old Nigerian model completed this extraordinary feat at a fashion show in Lagos last October. Her record-breaking journey required six months of intense preparation, financial investment, and unwavering determination.
Ayelabola’s achievement is a groundbreaking moment in the fashion industry. Walking for five days straight is challenging enough, but doing it in high heels pushed the limits of endurance. Her accomplishment not only secured a place in the record books but also inspired many aspiring models.
The Intense Preparation Behind the Record
Achieving this milestone was no easy task. Ayelabola and her team spent six months planning and training. She invested 80 million naira (about $51,612) to make her dream a reality. Medical professionals monitored her health, ensuring she could withstand the extreme physical strain.
“To prepare for me [was not] easy, [with] blood and sweat, [it] cost us a lot, I spend 80 million naira,” Ayelabola shared. “For six months, me and [the people] begin [to] prepare [because] no be easy thing.”
Despite setbacks, she remained focused. Her team’s support and strategic training helped her push past exhaustion and injuries.
Overcoming Doubts and Setbacks
Many doubted Ayelabola’s ability to complete the challenge. She recalled facing rejection from fashion shows due to her height and struggling to find support for her dream.
“I go different competition but [they] tell me say I short. Plenti [people] no fit survive dat [kind of thing], na [what] [motivated] me be dat,” she said.
Her motivation grew stronger with every rejection. Determined to prove doubters wrong, she pressed forward, ignoring negative opinions and pushing through the toughest moments.
Pain, Perseverance, and Victory
Walking 77.75 miles in heels took a toll on Ayelabola’s body. By the third day, her legs began to peel from the strain. Swelling and pain threatened to stop her progress, but her team quickly applied bandages and used ice water treatments to keep her going.
“On di third day, my leg peel sake of di catwalk, on day four dem bandage my leg and put me for ice water as my leg don swell,” she recalled.
Despite these challenges, she refused to quit. Her resilience paid off when she officially set the record, proving that determination can defy all odds.
