SuperMom Mission Gala Celebrates Black Mothers in Brooklyn
The SuperMom Mission Gala made its debut on March 8, 2025, in Brooklyn, honoring five incredible Black mothers for their strength, resilience, and dedication. Founded by Shaquasia ‘Quay’ Brooks in 2023, the gala celebrated Shamika Sanders, Tashera Simmons, Christina Wilds, Bre Scullark, and Avery J. Watson. Hosted by Hot 97’s TT Torrez, the event was a heartfelt tribute to the power of Black motherhood.
Each honoree shared their personal stories, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of motherhood. From dealing with mom guilt to leaning on their support systems, the women reminded everyone that no mother is alone in her journey. The gala was not just a celebration but also a reminder of the importance of community and self-care for mothers everywhere.
Honorees Share Inspiring Stories of Motherhood
Shamika Sanders, one of the honorees, reflected on the rare moment of being celebrated. “Being honored for anything is rare for me,” she said. “Most of us moms are just trying to make it through the day. It doesn’t feel super when you’re in the middle of a breakdown and your child asks for a snack.” Her words resonated with many, capturing the everyday struggles and victories of motherhood.
Tashera Simmons, another honoree, emphasized the importance of a strong support system. “The power of your village is everything,” she shared. The gala highlighted how these women balance their roles as mothers, professionals, and community leaders, inspiring others to embrace their own journeys with pride and resilience.
Founder Quay Brooks on the Mission Behind the Gala
Shaquasia ‘Quay’ Brooks, the founder of SuperMom Mission, spoke passionately about her vision for the gala. “SuperMom Mission has given back to me in so many ways,” she said. “The messages I receive from moms expressing how much our support has impacted them remind me why I do this.” Quay’s dedication to uplifting mothers was evident in every detail of the event.
Quay handpicked each honoree, ensuring their unique stories were celebrated. “I was very intentional,” she explained. “Choosing moms that I admire, moms that inspire me, and moms whose journeys I deeply respect.” The awards reflected the individuality and impact of each honoree, making the night even more special.
A Night of Celebration and Empowerment
The gala was not just about awards; it was a full experience. Honorees received swag bags filled with goodies from brands like Dr. Bobbi’s Big Mouth Toothbrush, Black Girl Sunscreen, and DollHouse Cosmetics. Personalized jello shot boxes by Koffis Jello Bar and encased floral arrangements by Your Story Is Our Story added a personal touch to the celebration.
Quay, who organized the event with the help of her friend Tiffany, shared the challenges of pulling it off. “Organizing the gala was both challenging and rewarding,” she said. “Seeing it all come together so beautifully made it all worth it.” The night was a testament to the power of community, love, and the unbreakable spirit of Black mothers.
