Rose Basketball Club made history by winning the first-ever Unrivaled women’s 3-on-3 basketball league championship. They defeated Vinyl Basketball Club 62-54 in a thrilling final. Despite missing key players Angel Reese and Kahleah Copper due to injuries, Rose’s resilience and Chelsea Gray’s stellar performance led them to victory.
A Historic Win for Rose Basketball Club
Rose’s journey to the championship was anything but easy. They started the season with just one win in their first five games. However, the team turned things around, showcasing grit and determination. Coach Nola Henry praised her team, saying, “We are a team of relentless dogs that refused to be denied.”
The final game was a testament to their perseverance. Chelsea Gray, named Unrivaled Finals MVP, scored 18 points and delivered eight assists. Brittney Sykes sealed the win with a game-winning free throw. The victory earned each player $50,000, adding extra motivation to their stellar performance.
Chelsea Gray’s MVP Performance
Chelsea Gray was the standout player of the championship game. After a challenging year recovering from injuries, Gray proved she was back at her best. “Hell yeah, there was motivation,” she said. “Last year was hard. It was rough. Even when I came back, I wasn’t 100 percent. A lot of people thought I was.”
Gray’s leadership and skill were crucial to Rose’s success. She not only scored but also elevated her teammates’ performance. Her ability to stay composed under pressure and deliver when it mattered most solidified her status as a key player in the league.
Overcoming Adversity Without Angel Reese and Kahleah Copper
Rose faced significant challenges heading into the championship. Angel Reese, the league’s first Defensive Player of the Year, sat out with a left-hand injury. Kahleah Copper, another star player, missed five weeks due to a right leg injury. Their absence could have been a major setback, but the team refused to let it define them.
Coach Henry emphasized their resilience, saying, “From day one, they counted us out. Kah went down; they counted us out. Azura was out, and they counted us out. Angel down, they counted us out. What they going to say now?” The team’s ability to adapt and thrive without two key players highlighted their depth and determination.
