Claressa Shields has achieved a remarkable milestone in boxing. On February 2, 2025, she became the first-ever undisputed women’s heavyweight champion. Shields, who proudly calls herself the “GWOAT” (Greatest Woman of All Time), defeated Danielle Perkins by unanimous decision at the Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan.

Shields, an undefeated fighter with a perfect 16-0 record, now holds all four major boxing titles in the heavyweight division: the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO. The win marks another significant achievement in her legendary career.

A Historic Victory for Shields

Shields, who has never known defeat in her professional career, took home the victory with the scorecards reading 100-89, 97-92, and 99-90. It was Perkins’ first professional loss in five fights. Despite a shoulder injury that nearly kept her from fighting, Shields pushed through and delivered a dominant performance in front of her hometown crowd.

The victory is especially sweet for Shields, as it took place in her hometown of Flint, Michigan. Her fans, family, and community witnessed her historic win, which made the night even more special for the undefeated champion.

Overcoming the Odds: Shields Fights Through Injury

Shields’ victory is even more impressive considering she was battling a shoulder injury. According to Shields, she tore her labrum just a week before the fight. “I actually think I’m going to have to have surgery on my left arm,” Shields said after the match. She explained that she couldn’t fully use her left arm for several days, making it difficult to jab during the fight. Despite the injury, Shields powered through, relying on therapy, ice, and her determination to push herself beyond the pain.

“I didn’t want to let Flint down,” she said. “I did the best that I could.” Shields’ ability to win in such conditions speaks volumes about her grit and dedication to the sport.

Shields Continues to Make Boxing History

This win solidifies Shields’ place as one of the greatest in boxing history. She is not only the first woman to hold all four major heavyweight titles but also the only fighter—male or female—to achieve this feat in three different weight divisions during the four-belt era. Shields has previously claimed undisputed titles in the super welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight divisions.

With this victory, Shields continues to build her legacy as a pioneer in women’s boxing. Her hard work and skill have set a new standard in the sport, inspiring countless others to follow in her footsteps.

The Future Looks Bright for the GWOAT

Shields’ journey is far from over. She is still at the top of her game and determined to keep making history. With her impressive win over Perkins, Shields has shown the world that she is a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world, and her career will likely continue to inspire future generations.
