Ashley Huston’s DreamWorld Bakes has officially opened its first brick-and-mortar bakery, adding a magical touch to Philadelphia. Located at 2500 Coral Street in East Kensington, the grand opening on January 2 brought together family, friends, and the community to celebrate this major milestone.

The Black woman-led bakery treated the first 100 visitors to complimentary Baby Spice cake bites, marking the day with sweetness and joy. A ribbon-cutting ceremony solidified Huston’s achievement, turning a dream that began in her home kitchen into a cherished community hub.

A Sweet Journey From Home Kitchen to Philly Staple

Huston’s journey began during the COVID-19 pandemic when she started baking as a side hustle in her home kitchen. What started as a way to earn extra money quickly grew into a beloved Philadelphia brand. DreamWorld Bakes is now known for its unique pastries made with fresh, local ingredients.

“Opening a bakery has always been my dream,” Huston shared. “DreamWorld Bakes is my love letter to Philly and proof that with enough hard work and a sprinkle of magic, anything is possible.”

Huston’s dedication and vision have turned DreamWorld Bakes into a staple in Philly’s baking community, inspiring countless others along the way.

Patti LaBelle’s Cake and More Milestones

Ashley Huston’s talent caught the attention of Philadelphia Magazine, which named her one of the “2024 Best of Philly Bakers.” But one of her proudest moments was crafting Patti LaBelle’s 80th birthday cake, a testament to her skills and artistry.

“This bakery is the culmination of so much hard work, love, and a little bit of magic,” Huston said. “I want DreamWorld Bakes to be a space where everyone can feel a spark of joy and wonder and, of course, enjoy some incredible treats.”

Huston’s success story is a shining example of Black excellence, and her accomplishments continue to inspire both her team and the larger community.

Empowering Others Through Mentorship

DreamWorld Bakes isn’t just about desserts; it’s also a space for growth and mentorship. Willow Eagono, an employee and baker at the shop, expressed gratitude for Huston’s guidance.

“Ashley is the first person who taught me anything about baking,” Eagono said. “To be able to learn from her and now be in a space where she’s doing everything feels really exciting.”

The new brick-and-mortar location offers more than just pastries—it provides a space for people to connect, learn, and grow together, reflecting Huston’s commitment to community and empowerment.
