Donna Robinson has made history by becoming the first Black woman to lead the Cincinnati State Police Department. A veteran with 33 years of experience in the Cincinnati Police Department (CPD), Robinson officially stepped into her new role on December 11, 2024. This achievement is a landmark moment for Cincinnati State and the broader community.

A Historic First for Cincinnati State

Cincinnati State President, Dr. Monica Posey, highlighted Robinson’s unique qualifications. “Chief Robinson’s education, experience, and dedication to service stood out to us,” Posey said. “Her leadership will bring immense value to our college and the broader community.”

Robinson’s appointment signifies a new era for local law enforcement. She is the first Black woman to lead a police department at Cincinnati State, breaking barriers in a field where such milestones remain rare. Her accomplishment has been celebrated across the region as a symbol of progress.

A Vision for Leadership in Law Enforcement

In her new role, Robinson is eager to inspire others. She shared her excitement, saying, “I’m deeply honored to take on this role and thrilled to see more women stepping into leadership positions in law enforcement. It sends a powerful message to women considering this career and those already serving.”

Robinson joins an impressive group of women in leadership positions within local law enforcement, including Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge and Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey. Together, they represent a growing wave of change in the profession.

A Remarkable Career Built on Service

Robinson’s journey began in her hometown of Cincinnati before she moved to Lexington. After earning her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University, she joined the CPD in 1990.

Over the years, Robinson excelled in several roles, including patrol officer, special investigator, district shift sergeant, and commander of the Public Relations Unit. She climbed the ranks with integrity, earning promotions that reflected her dedication to justice and community service.

Expertise Backed by Advanced Education

Education has always been a cornerstone of Robinson’s career. She earned a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University and later graduated from the prestigious FBI National Academy Program.

Former CPD Chief Teresa Theetge praised Robinson’s character and accomplishments. “Donna Robinson was an exceptional member of the Cincinnati Police Department,” Theetge said. “Her rise through the ranks to Lieutenant exemplified her commitment to justice, compassion, and dignity.”

Inspiring the Next Generation

Robinson’s historic appointment is more than a personal achievement. It sends a powerful message about the possibilities for African American women in law enforcement. Her story inspires young women, especially those considering careers in this field, to aim high and break barriers.

By taking the helm at Cincinnati State, Robinson continues her legacy of service while paving the way for the next generation of leaders.
