Alvionna Brewster has become a powerful force in the healthcare industry by founding Black Nurse Entrepreneurs (BNE), a group designed to support and empower African-American nurses. Launched in 2015, BNE now boasts a community of over 23,000 members, all of whom benefit from resources that foster entrepreneurship and financial independence.

Empowering Nurses to Achieve Financial Freedom

Brewster’s journey began with a simple idea: create a space where Black nurses interested in entrepreneurship could share their stories and resources. This vision quickly grew into BNE, a thriving community where nurse entrepreneurs connect, collaborate, and grow. In an interview with Dallas Voyage, Brewster shared, “It started with a simple social media platform where nurse entrepreneurs shared their stories. Black nurses who were interested in entrepreneurship felt comfortable reaching out and obtaining resources that they may not have gotten elsewhere.”

The impact of BNE on its members is profound. Through coaching, workshops, and networking, thousands of nurses have achieved financial freedom and gained the confidence to start their own businesses. These entrepreneurs are transforming healthcare delivery by offering cost-effective, culturally sensitive care, while also improving overall health outcomes globally.

Overcoming Barriers in Healthcare and Entrepreneurship

BNE’s success is not just about building businesses; it’s about changing the way healthcare is delivered. The group has helped members launch successful ventures, some of which have reached 6, 7, and even 8 figures. These businesses have challenged traditional healthcare models, increasing access to essential services and reducing mortality rates, particularly in underserved communities.

Brewster reflects on the group’s work, especially during the pandemic, when BNE nurses played a pivotal role in improving access to critical services. “Some of our proudest moments happened during the pandemic, when our nurses built businesses that dramatically increased access to critical services, leading to a significant reduction in mortality rates,” she said in an interview with Black News.

Building Generational Wealth and Inspiring Future Leaders

Brewster’s mission extends beyond individual success. She is determined to help Black nurses build generational wealth and redefine what it means to be a nurse. “BNE is more than a community—it’s a transformative experience,” she explained. By providing members with the tools to succeed, BNE is ensuring that future generations of Black nurses have the resources to thrive both professionally and financially.

As the organization continues to grow, Brewster plans to reintegrate in-person gatherings, strengthening the bonds within the community and providing more opportunities for collaboration.

Brewster’s Personal Journey and Commitment to Health Education

Brewster’s passion for nursing and education is deeply personal. She became a certified nurse in 2005 and later earned a Master’s Degree in Nursing Education. Her expertise spans cardiovascular disease, preventative medicine, and health promotion. Brewster’s commitment to helping others live their best lives is evident in her work and her leadership within BNE.

“My ultimate goal is to help people to live out their best life, whatever that entails,” Brewster said. “I am very fortunate to be in the position I am in because it has allowed me to impact many people from different walks of life.”
