In a resounding victory, Democratic Representative Lucy McBath has reclaimed her seat in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District after a hard-fought battle against Republican Jeff Criswell. With nearly 75% of the vote, McBath is once again the voice of North Atlanta’s suburbs, continuing her dedication to gun control, women’s rights, and healthcare reform.

A Strong Commitment to Women’s Rights and Healthcare

As a mother and a breast cancer survivor, McBath has always been a fierce advocate for women’s rights and access to affordable healthcare. During her campaign, she made it clear that she would continue to fight against any efforts to defund essential services like Planned Parenthood, which provides critical healthcare to countless women in her district.

McBath’s unwavering support for women’s healthcare has earned her respect, particularly as she battles for policies that protect women’s rights and ensure they have access to necessary services. With a deep understanding of the struggles many women face, McBath has vowed to keep fighting for equality and justice, particularly in healthcare.

A Champion for Gun Safety and Equality

McBath’s advocacy began long before her time in Congress. After the tragic death of her son in 2012, McBath became a vocal champion for gun safety and stricter regulations. Her personal experience with gun violence led her to champion measures like universal background checks for gun sales and Red Flag Laws, all of which passed the House during her tenure.

Her work on gun safety is a cornerstone of her career, but McBath also stands firmly for equality, especially for LGBTQ+ communities. Throughout her campaign, she emphasized the need for legislation that ensures non-discrimination and protections for all citizens, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Overcoming Redistricting and the Republican Challenge

In 2022, McBath faced a significant challenge after redistricting forced her to run in a new district. The Georgia Republicans proposed a court-ordered district split, which threatened to eliminate McBath’s seat entirely. However, McBath was undeterred. She successfully navigated the redistricting process and even overcame a primary battle in 2022, proving her resilience and dedication to her community.

Now, with the 2024 election behind her, McBath’s return to the 6th District is a powerful testament to her continued commitment to serving her constituents. Her victory against Criswell solidifies her position as one of Georgia’s leading voices in Congress.

Focusing on Infrastructure and Money in Politics

In addition to healthcare and gun control, McBath has made it clear that she will continue to focus on issues that directly affect her district, including infrastructure development and reducing the influence of money in politics. By working to secure better resources for transportation, public services, and education, McBath plans to continue improving the lives of those in her community.

Her approach to money in politics is rooted in the belief that voters should have the ultimate say, not large corporations or wealthy donors. McBath’s dedication to campaign finance reform is another indication of her commitment to fairness and transparency in the political process.

Looking Ahead: A Leader for Change

Lucy McBath’s victory is more than just a political win—it’s a symbol of perseverance, resilience, and a promise for continued change. As she takes her seat in Congress once again, McBath remains determined to represent her community’s values and fight for the issues that matter most, from gun safety and women’s rights to healthcare access and infrastructure.

With her unwavering commitment to equality, justice, and progress, McBath is poised to remain a strong leader in Congress, shaping policy for a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
