Tina Knowles, celebrated businesswoman and mother to superstar Beyoncé, will release her memoir Matriarch in April 2025. The upcoming book is set to offer a revealing look into her life’s journey—from her early days in Galveston, Texas, to becoming a successful entrepreneur and cultural icon. Published by Random House’s One World imprint, Matriarch will delve into stories of family, resilience, and the wisdom passed down from generation to generation.

A Legacy of Strength and Family Wisdom

Tina Knowles has built a legacy of empowerment and resilience, which she attributes to the values instilled by her family. In Matriarch, Knowles shares her experience growing up as the youngest of seven siblings in a vibrant household. Describing her childhood, she recalls the “sounds of Motown” and the beach close to her home, illustrating how these memories shaped her dreams.

As she faced the harsh realities of race and girlhood, Knowles’ ambitions expanded beyond her hometown. Her memoir promises to explore these pivotal moments, which fueled her drive and set her on a path toward success. She notes, “Even at 70, I’m still learning valuable lessons—revelations I wish I had at 20 or 40.”

Building a Groundbreaking Career

Beyond her role as a matriarch, Tina Knowles has achieved remarkable success as a businesswoman and fashion designer. Her career took off in 1986 with her revolutionary hair salon, Headliners, which catered to a diverse clientele. Her business savvy extended to managing her daughter Beyoncé’s career and helping to shape Destiny’s Child into an internationally renowned group.

Knowles has also co-founded House of Deréon, a fashion line named in honor of her mother, and played a key role in her daughter’s latest venture, Cécred, a haircare line. In her memoir, Knowles reveals her journey as a trailblazing businesswoman, balancing her roles as a mother, mentor, and industry leader. Her story highlights her dedication to creating opportunities for Black women in business and fashion.

A Story of Love, Loss, and Resilience

Matriarch promises to be an “intimate and revealing” account of Tina Knowles’ personal life, including her triumphs and challenges. According to her publisher, the memoir covers her experiences with love, heartbreak, and the strength it took to raise her daughters, Beyoncé and Solange, with strong values and self-confidence.

Knowles emphasizes her role as a mentor to her daughters, imparting life lessons she learned along the way. She states, “I have always been a storyteller, something I learned from my mother. My daughters needed to know where they came from to know where they were going.” In Matriarch, readers can expect powerful reflections on family ties, the importance of heritage, and the wisdom mothers pass to their daughters.

A New Chapter in Black Female Empowerment

Knowles’ memoir also explores the concept of “matriarch” in a modern context. Executive Editor Kierna Mayo describes Matriarch as “an exploration of intangible sensibility” and a book that redefines what it means to be a matriarch today. The memoir is expected to resonate with readers from all backgrounds, offering a new perspective on Black female empowerment and the vital role of women in shaping future generations.

Matriarch will be released on April 22, 2025, and is available for preorder at major bookstores. Readers can look forward to an inspiring, intimate portrayal of one woman’s journey to fulfill her dreams, lead her family, and build a lasting legacy.
