Tito Jackson, a key member of the legendary Jackson 5 and brother to music icons Michael and Janet Jackson, has died at the age of 70. His passing was confirmed by his sons, who shared their heartbreak with the world.

Family Heartbreak and Legacy

Tito Jackson’s sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll, announced the tragic news on social media. In their heartfelt statement, they wrote, “It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us. We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.” The statement revealed the depth of their loss and the love they had for their father.

His death was first reported by Entertainment Tonight, citing Steve Manning, a longtime family friend and former manager. Manning believes Tito suffered a heart attack while driving from New Mexico to Oklahoma, though the official cause of death has not been confirmed.

Tito Jackson: A Musical Icon and Older Brother

Born Toriano Adaryll “Tito” Jackson in Gary, Indiana, Tito was the third of nine Jackson siblings. He grew up alongside his talented brothers and sisters, with Michael and Janet later becoming global superstars. As part of the Jackson 5, Tito contributed to hits like “ABC,” “I Want You Back,” and “I’ll Be There,” songs that still resonate today.

The Jackson 5, consisting of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, became a household name in the 1970s. Their rise to fame was marked by their induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Under their father Joe Jackson’s guidance, the family’s journey from Gary, Indiana, to California marked the beginning of a musical dynasty.

A Solo Journey and Personal Sacrifice

Unlike his brothers, Tito held back on launching his solo career immediately, choosing to focus on raising his three sons—TJ, Taj, and Taryll—who went on to form the R&B/pop group 3T. He finally embarked on his solo journey in 2003, finding success as a blues musician. His first hit single, “Get It Baby,” was released in 2016, featuring Big Daddy Kane from his album “Tito Time.”

His decision to focus on his family before his solo career highlights the dedication he had as a father. Despite his later start, his contributions to music remained significant, earning him respect in the industry.

Impact of Michael Jackson’s Death on Tito and the Family

Michael Jackson’s death in 2009 had a profound effect on Tito and the entire Jackson family. Tito spoke openly about how the loss brought the family closer together. “It brought us a step closer to each other,” he shared, adding that the family still felt the absence of Michael during performances. Despite the pain, Tito continued to honor his brother’s legacy through music and the family’s shared journey.

In one of his final social media posts, Tito expressed his gratitude for a memorial dedicated to Michael in Munich, Germany, writing, “We’re deeply grateful for this special place that honors not only his memory but also our shared legacy.”

A Family Man and His Enduring Influence

Tito Jackson leaves behind a family that not only mourns his loss but also carries forward his musical legacy. His sons TJ, Taj, and Taryll have carried the musical torch as 3T, while Tito’s contributions continue to inspire generations.

He is survived by his brothers Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, and Jackie, and his sisters Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya, along with their mother Katherine. Tito’s legacy as a musician, father, and brother endures, reminding the world of the indelible mark the Jackson family has left on music history.
