From Stages to Smokehouses
Jonnetta Patton, known for her managerial prowess in elevating the career of her son, R&B legend Usher, has now embarked on a new venture in the food industry. Patton has recently opened a new food truck called J’s Smokehouse in metro Atlanta, showcasing her culinary talents.
“I enjoyed 17 years of creating one of the biggest artists in the world,” explained Patton. “I’m doing the same thing with my [cooking] incubator and now J’s Smokehouse.”
A Unique Barbecue Menu
While traditional barbecue menus often lack diversity, Patton has revitalized the offerings at J’s Smokehouse. In addition to classic dishes like pulled pork sandwiches, she has also included vegan options, such as a vegan hot dog, to cater to a wider range of customers.
“What makes the menu different are our options, are vegan options. We have a pulled pork sandwich, and we have a vegan hot dog in the smokehouse. And they are amazing,” Patton added.
Proud Son, Supportive Family
To show his support for his mom’s new venture, Usher himself attended the grand opening of J’s Smokehouse. Patton shared that Usher was immensely proud of her and her culinary endeavor.
“He always wants to give you the best, and it was just very stressful,” Patton said, referring to Usher’s recent decision to postpone the start of his world tour in Atlanta due to health concerns. “It was very, very stressful, but he’s OK. And his doctors have advised him to just rest.”
A Culinary Incubator and More
In addition to running her food truck, Patton is also the owner of a culinary incubator, providing a shared kitchen experience for aspiring chefs. This multifaceted approach reflects Patton’s passion for the food industry and her desire to support and nurture culinary talents.
As Usher prepares to resume his world tour, Patton continues to blaze her own trail in the culinary world, showcasing her versatility and entrepreneurial spirit.
