Detroit Twins Celebrate Remarkable Century

Doris Ward and Loris Pryor, beloved African American twins from Detroit, recently marked a major milestone: their 100th birthday. The sisters, who have been inseparable their entire lives, celebrated their centenary with a joyous family gathering.

During the celebration, Doris reflected on the milestone, saying, “All I can say is that it’s a blessing to be here at 100 years old.” Her sister Loris added, “To live this long, I never thought it would happen or not happen. I never thought about it.”

A Lifetime of Shared Memories

Doris and Loris have spent their lives together, from raising nine children to enjoying the company of multiple generations of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their close bond has been a defining feature of their lives.

“We are always together with everything—everything. She ain’t go without me… I ain’t go without her. (We were) always together,” Loris shared. This deep connection is reflected in their shared activities, including trips to the casino and their cherished love for dancing.

Family and Friends Join the Celebration

The centenary celebration was filled with warmth and joy, with family and friends coming together to honor the twins. Although Doris and Loris couldn’t get up and dance, they enjoyed the music by tapping their feet and surrounded by their loved ones.

“The good Lord blessed us to still… see our family and that was a blessing,” Doris said. For Doris and Loris, reaching this age is a treasured gift, highlighting the value of family and enduring love.

Cherishing the Gift of Life

Reflecting on their incredible milestone, Loris noted, “Life is very precious, or I wouldn’t be here. It’s just precious to live this long.” Their celebration was a heartfelt reminder of the joy and beauty found in shared moments and a lifetime of togetherness.
