Houston native and rapper Megan Thee Stallion has launched an Emergency Power Program to help senior citizens affected by Hurricane Beryl. This initiative aims to provide much-needed power during natural disasters and address the urgent needs of the elderly in her hometown.
Hurricane Beryl’s Impact on Houston Seniors
Hurricane Beryl caused widespread devastation, leaving over two million people without electricity. The National Weather Service warned about dangerous heat conditions due to the lack of proper cooling. At least 22 people lost their lives because of the storm, according to The Houston Chronicle. Senior citizens were among the most vulnerable, struggling without electricity and facing extreme heat.
Megan’s Response to the Crisis
In response to this crisis, Megan Thee Stallion expressed her concern on social media platform X, saying, “It’s been painful to watch the elderly population in Houston suffer without electricity during these devastating storms.”
She emphasized the need to provide resources to help the elderly withstand future emergencies. Megan’s Emergency Power Program, in collaboration with her Pete and Thomas Foundation and Bread Of Life, Inc., will distribute generators to senior citizens in Houston.
Immediate and Long-Term Relief
The Emergency Power Program not only focuses on immediate relief but also aims for long-term protection against future power outages and emergencies.
By distributing generators, Megan’s initiative ensures that seniors have a reliable power source during disasters. This effort reflects a strategic approach to safeguarding senior citizens and addressing their needs during crises.
Collaboration with Local Organizations
Megan’s Pete and Thomas Foundation has partnered with Bread Of Life, Inc. to make this program a reality. In addition to providing generators, the foundation has also distributed gift cards for groceries and essential items to families impacted by Hurricane Beryl. This comprehensive support aims to uplift and assist the affected communities in multiple ways.
The Broader Mission of the Pete and Thomas Foundation
The Pete and Thomas Foundation, established on Megan’s 27th birthday in honor of her parents, focuses on uplifting women, children, senior citizens, and underserved communities in Houston and beyond. The foundation addresses areas such as education, health and wellness, and housing. Megan’s commitment to her community is evident through initiatives like the Emergency Power Program, which align with the foundation’s broader mission.
