Dosso Beauty Expands with Brick-and-Mortar Presence

Dosso Beauty, a pioneering Black woman-owned brand specializing in hypoallergenic braiding hair, is making waves with the grand opening of its first flagship store and salon in Philadelphia.

Founded in 2018 by Kadidja Dosso, the brand addresses a critical need for individuals allergic to traditional braiding hair, offering solutions for sensitive scalps and skin. Dosso’s personal journey with hair allergies drove her to develop a product line that is gentle yet effective, providing relief for those suffering from scalp and skin sensitivities.

Addressing a Critical Need

In a recent interview with Fox 29, Dosso explained her motivation behind launching Dosso Beauty: “I noticed severe reactions using other brands that claimed to be clean therapy. My scalp was inflamed, purple, and unbearable. This pushed me to find a better option.” Her determination led her to survey over 200 women, confirming widespread demand for allergy-friendly hair products.

Since its inception, Dosso Beauty products have gained popularity online, available on platforms like Amazon and GoPuff. The brand also received a $250,000 grant from the Black Ambition Prize, championing innovation and entrepreneurship within Black communities.

A Community-Centric Approach

Located at 5102 Rochelle Ave, the new Philadelphia store marks Dosso Beauty’s commitment to creating a community hub. Beyond retail, the space will offer installation services, fostering a welcoming environment where customers can experience beauty that prioritizes their health and well-being.

“Beyond providing products and solutions for sensitive scalp and skin, we’ve been keen on building a community and space where everyone can experience beauty that is intentionally good for us and by us,” shared Dosso in an Instagram announcement.
