Saweetie’s Inspiring Rise: From Financial Struggles to Multimillion-Dollar Success

Saweetie, the rapper and entrepreneur, has candidly shared her inspiring journey to financial independence. Her story sheds light on the obstacles she overcame and the valuable lessons she learned along the way.

“I was never really given the knowledge of how to operate my financial expenses the proper way at a young age,” Saweetie revealed. “I never liked having to ask my mom or dad for money and them telling me no.”

Humble Beginnings and Entrepreneurial Spirit

Despite facing economic hardships in her youth, Saweetie’s resilience and determination never wavered. From an early age, she displayed an entrepreneurial spirit, finding ways to earn her own money through bake sales and other ventures.

“What I do remember is that I never liked having to ask my mom or dad for money and them telling me no. So, I figured out how to get my own money from having bake sales or whatever.”

Turning Passion into Profit: Saweetie’s Business Ventures

Saweetie’s entrepreneurial mindset continued through her college years at the University of Southern California (USC). In addition to her studies, she launched a successful clothing line, worked as a waitress, and took on work-study gigs to support herself financially.

“I’ve always just loved money and the ability to buy my own things,” she explained. “But, honestly, as far as how I got here, it’s from making bad decisions financially.”

Embracing Financial Literacy for Generational Wealth

As her success grew, Saweetie recognized the importance of financial literacy, especially for future generations. She joined forces with her grandmother to launch the Icy Baby Foundation, educating Black and brown youth in the Bay Area about money management, budgeting, and investing.

“It is important to learn the proper way to accrue wealth, beyond keeping money in a shoebox—like I was taught,” Saweetie emphasized. “Kids need to know this because when you know better, you do better.”

Saweetie’s Advice: Seek Professional Guidance and Invest Wisely

Reflecting on her journey, Saweetie stresses the importance of seeking professional guidance and making wise investments. She advocates for budgeting, understanding financial statements, and maximizing wealth through strategic planning.

“My biggest piece of advice to people also running into new money is to really sit with someone—like a banker or accountant—who knows what they are doing so you can map out your money from the beginning and not run into speed bumps later.”
